Over the next few weeks we’re going to be highlighting members of our Board of Directors who are seeking re-election, or will be continuing their current term after the 2018 election this October 12th. If you are a current AFFTA member and want to join other industry leaders in shaping the future of fly fishing for generations to come, consider running for the AFFTA Board. Submit your bio before Friday, September 21st. All details can be found here.

Jeff Patterson is the Director of Sales & Marketing for Montrose, Colorado-based Abel and Ross Reels as well as Executive VP of Abel. A lifelong fisherman, Jeff joined Abel Reels in 1992 as a customer service representative, and over the years graduated through several roles in the company until appointed to his current position. After Abel parent company Mayfly Outdoors acquired Ross Reels in 2014, he was asked to utilize his experience in the fly fishing industry to help lead the multi-brand sales team they are now.

Jeff moved to Montrose with his wife Debbie, their two teenage sons, and two crazy dogs in 2016 as Abel relocated their California machine shop to a much fishier place at the longtime factory home of Ross Reels. He loves his new trouty surroundings on the Western Slope of the Rockies, but saltwater fly fishing adventures are still his true passion.

Jeff is seeking re-election to the AFFTA board this year so he can continue pursuing his long-term goal of being on a well-rounded team that helps lead the direction and continued success of the fly fishing industry.

Why is AFFTA Board service important to you (personally and professionally)?
The fly fishing industry and the amazing people making a living in it have taught me so much in life. In my 26 years of being part of the fly fishing community I’ve seen a number of unique ideas/programs become successful, and I’ve also found there’s usually a dynamic team with great hearts behind it all. I’ve also seen the hard work and determination it takes to produce results. I believe it’s almost a personal obligation to return the favor by sharing with the AFFTA board what I’ve learned from my own experiences, and trusting my involvement will help us continue to grow as an industry.

What work are we doing as an organization that gets you excited?
I’m excited by a number of the different aspects that AFFTA represents for the greater good of our sport. Our views on conservation and the long-term outlook we all share for both the health of our industry and our planet is vital to each of our businesses. I’m also very encouraged that the improved strength of our industry has once again allowed us to host our own annual IFTD show. AFFTA as a board understands just how important this now independent show is to our future, and I’m confident we’ll make it feel like a can’t miss event for everyone.
