Submit your bio before Friday, September 21st. All details can be found here.
As a Colorado Native, Ben gained an appreciation for fly fishing at an early age. After graduating from Brown University, Ben first stepped in the industry as a professional fly fishing guide in the Vail Valley. Shortly thereafter Ben started his career with Fishpond. Initially, he started out assisting his current business partner, John Le Coq, with design and business development. In 2012, the Kurtz family joined Fishpond with Ben as the President. He has been an integral part of the company earning its certification as a B Corporation and, among other positive business practices, making good on their commitment to move all of their products over to recycled materials, developing a material called Cyclepond. He was recently elected to his second term on the Board and chairs the AFFTA Grant Committee which oversees the Fisheries Fund.
Why is AFFTA Board service important to you (personally and professionally)?
Serving on the board allows me to play a role in shaping the future of the industry, and to insure the health of not only my business, but the places we fish.
What work are we doing as an organization that gets you excited?
I get most excited about the fact that the organization has a significant voice on policies that matter to all anglers, and anyone that enjoys spending time outdoors. The Fisheries Fund is also a great avenue that we highlight the vast scope of conservation work that AFFTA supports and engages in.
