Bozeman, Montana – Yesterday Montana Representative Greg Gianforte introduced two wildlife and fisheries conservation bills in the U.S. House of Representatives. One would designate portions of East Rosebud Creek as Wild and Scenic and the other would withdraw minerals rights from federal land and prevent mining operations at the headwaters of the Yellowstone River in Paradise Valley.
“On behalf of our industry members, anglers and recreational users of both the East Rosebud Creek and Yellowstone River, I thank you Congressman Gianforte for your leadership in introducing these bills in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act and the East Rosebud Creek Wild and Scenic designation are both supported by the community and local businesses in Park County.” said AFFTA President and CEO Ben Bulis.
H.R. 4645, mirrors legislation introduced earlier this year by Montana’s Senator Jon Tester and co-sponsored by Senator Steve Daines. If passed, this will be the first river in Montana to receive such a designation in over 40 years. The Wild and Scenic designation received broad support from the local community and area businesses.
H.R. 4644 mirrors legislation introduced earlier this year by Montana Senator Jon Tester. The Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act withdraws minerals rights and bans mining operations on public lands at the headwaters of the Yellowstone River. The Yellowstone River is well known as one of our Nation’s most iconic fisheries and serves as the gateway to Yellowstone National Park for the estimated 4 million annual visitors.
